It's a happy kind of cold
a little Starbucks to warm our bellies
Will the balloons fly? Will we freeze?
We woke up bright and early to snatch a good spot. We had a short little 5 minute walk to get over to 6th Ave from our hotel and found that there were no front row spots to be had already at 6:30 am so we settled for second row back behind a family that had lawn chairs. We figured the view would be good since they'd be sitting. And then began the wait. It would be another 3 hours before the parade reached us. Brrrr. It was chilly. I think I had 6 layers on top, warm boots, and hand warmers. The high for the day was 34 but it was windy so that was the tough part. We decided to plant ourselves down on the subway/sewer grate of some kind that was under our feet. The sitting kept us warmer, our feet rested, and helped us better save our spot as more people poured in behind us. So there we waited with some 3.5 million of our friends along the parade route! Karen kept us up to speed with her Macy's parade app. We were so excited when the call was made to fly the balloons!!! but even more excited when we saw the Snoopy balloon round the corner of Central Park South and 6th Ave and the parade officially began for us. Totally worth the wait.
